Why does password strength matter?
A modern GPU can test billions of guesses per second against a stolen password hash. A weak 8-character all-lowercase password can be cracked in under a second. A 16-character random password from all four character sets would take longer than the age of the universe.
Entropy is the mathematical measure of unpredictability. Every bit of entropy doubles the number of guesses an attacker needs. Our generator targets 80+ bits by default — well above the NIST minimum recommendation of 50 bits for high-security accounts.
Passphrases (e.g. cloud-tiger-lamp-81) are long, high-entropy, and easy to type. They're ideal for passwords you have to remember, like your master password or device login.
